Brenda Carol has been professionally singing for over eighteen years. As a graduate of York University, Carol has studied and performed with such Canadian jazz talents as Steve Wallace, Lorne Lofsky, Stephen Crowe, Bill McBirnie and Stephen Gardner. Carol is a founding member and lead vocalist of the Toronto-based group, ClaireVoyance, who have appeared at several regional, national and international music festivals. In 1998, Brenda Carol released a debut self-titled CD to critical acclaim. Most recently, Carol & ClaireVoyance released Live At HotHouse Cafe garnering "CD of the Week" at Jazzreview.com. 

As an educator and clinician for over fifteen years, Carol has worked with groups at the TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival and the DuMaurier Downtown Toronto Jazz Festival, the Toronto District School Board, private ensembles, independent recording artists and professional label represented artists. Carol is currently a private vocal instructor in Toronto, ON Canada and a performing/recording artist. Brenda Carol is listed in the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment, Vol. 1, Showbiz, Pioneers - Best Singers, Musicians, and Entertainers from 1606 to the present, [published by the Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists (FAMSPA)].

Brenda Carol is active in the Toronto music scene, teaching privately, offering master classes, playing at local restaurants and clubs, performing private and corporate functions, studio session work, and regular radio and television appearances. Carol has also been referenced and discussed in pedagogical music literature regarding progressive rock and jazz music performance in two books by Bill Martinassociate professor of philosophy, DePaul University, Chicago author of "Music of Yes" and "Listening to the future". Brenda Carol & ClaireVoyance are members of the Toronto Musicians Association (T.M.A.) and Local 149 of the American Federation of Musicians (A.F. of M.). Brenda Carol and ClaireVoyance are on regular play list at JAZZ.FM91 and CBC RADIO. You can request her songs at these stations.  What I Teach

* All styles of music: pop, rock, hip hop, alt, hot a/c, classical, country, prog rock or Progressive Rock, blues, jazz (vocalese), swing, Broadway, gospel, folk and R & B. Audition preparation.

* Specialization: pop, rock, jazz, prog rock, gospel, hip hop and folk, group vocals, live/recording performance.

* Ages 9 +: generally some restrictions apply for younger singers.

* Emphasis on proper skill development, reading and of course, enjoyment!  

Proper Skill Development: Learn to sing freely with a fully operating vocal instrument - your voice!  Learn to hear, feel and see the physical results of proper singing. Identify "diagnose" and correct any posture, breath management and voice production issues that have resulted in inefficient singing. Establish a proper timbre of the voice throughout all registers. Learn to coordinate proper laryngeal function, resonance, breath management, diction and vocal legato to encompass a safe and healthy singing experience, always. Learn the proper vocabulary of singing. Finally, assist students in establishing their performance skills in order that they might pursue a professional career in music.

Reading: Learn to read music, improve sight-singing skills, develop ear-training, and theory practice. RCM theory exam preparation available.

* Beginner to professional development - voice instruction (vocal lessons) and vocal (repertoire) coaching available.

Professional Development: musicianship, style and interpretation, career preparation and development, efficient vocal function and the development of vocal health throughout your singing career.

* Skill development training and instruction in the following areas: vocal (repertoire) coaching & voice instruction (vocal lessons), reading, ear training, breath management training, performance development in singing and accompaniment together, and microphone technique for live and/or recording performance.

* Consultations also available for artist development in the following areas: multi-media technology, creating your own record label, web page design, successful recording, public relations, and building excellent musicianship.

* Musical band/group instruction available. *Consultation necessary and fees will vary. (Band/groups must already exist and perform as a group of singers/musicians.) Development in harmony, blending, group dynamic singing, breath management and listening. 

* Master Classes in Jazz, Progressive Rock and Pop Singing with an emphasis on proper skill development for healthy singing throughout your career. Check your local listing for Master Class information.
